ROSI in Single Port Robotic Surgery
Surgeons performing single-port robot assisted surgery depend on VTI’s Remotely Operated Suction Irrigation System (ROSI) to provide flexible suction and irrigation in these challenging procedures. Single-port robotic surgery allows surgeons to perform minimally invasive surgery through a single incision; however, rigid suction irrigation probes cannot be effectively angulated or manipulated within such narrow surgical fields.
The ROSI system with its flexible 24-inch suction irrigation probe allows for optimal angulation and improved reach within single-port robotic cases. The flexible probe can be inserted directly through the SP access port or placed through a port used for insufflation. The distal tip of the probe is then manipulated with the robotic instruments; suction and irrigation are activated using a foot pedal. ROSI has become a critical device in the toolbox of surgeons performing single-port robotic surgery.

Clinical Studies Demonstrate:
- Surgeon-controlled suction [during robotic prostatectomy] allowed more surgeon autonomy without a negative impact on efficiency or safety issues requiring “bailout” suctioning by the bedside assistant whether urgent or otherwise.1
- During robotic prostatectomy, when historically compared to cases in which suction was provided by the bedside assistant (BAS), the mean operative time in cases where ROSI was used for suction and irrigation was shorter than in BAS group (149min vs 156 min, p<0.001).1
